Dear Influidencers,
This past month, Türkiye took center stage in my research. Istanbul, a city shaped by centuries of trade and transition, offered a unique lens into a market at the crossroads of ambition and uncertainty. Walking its streets, meeting with locals, and observing the pulse of its industries reinforced how much of the country’s investment story is shaped by both deep-rooted strengths and evolving challenges. From local businesses adapting to volatility to the capital flows reshaping industries, my time there reinforced the importance of looking beyond surface-level narratives when assessing investment opportunities.
I also had the chance to attend the RV Capital Annual General Meeting, hosted by Rob Vinall, one of Europe's most respected value investors. Through his fund, Business Owners, he has built a reputation for long-term, high-conviction investing, focusing on business quality over market cycles. The AGM gathered a group of investors who share this philosophy, fostering candid discussions on great companies, scuttlebutt, and entrepreneurship. I had the opportunity to reconnect with friends and engage with new voices shaping value investing today. You can find the full discussions on Robert Vinall's YouTube account.
This Month’s Research & Insights
The latest Postcard from Istanbul captures the pulse of a city at the crossroads of history and modern ambition, economic resilience and political uncertainty. It offers firsthand insights from the ground, alongside an overview of the companies and market forces shaping Türkiye today. You can read the full piece here.
A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to sit down with HK Kim, one of the leading activist investors in Korea. Our conversation explored his transition from regulator to investor, his experiences in the U.S., where he gathered insights directly from Warren Buffett, Bill Ackman, and Todd Combs, and his battle to push for stronger corporate governance in a market dominated by entrenched interests. His journey is inspiring and deeply motivated by his sense of justice. You can read the full interview here. A full analysis of his fund will follow soon—stay tuned!
Following my work on Banyan Partners, I analyzed China’s evolving investment landscape. The country’s balancing act between growth, state control, and capital flows continues to challenge investors. While concerns over regulation dominate headlines, my research focuses on how these forces shape market structure and what it means for those navigating Chinese equities. You can read the full analysis here.
Finally, I published The Art of Field Research: Building an Edge Through Applied Intelligence, where I break down my approach to on-the-ground intelligence gathering. Investing goes beyond financial statements—true insight comes from understanding the subtleties of a business, its customers, and its competitive environment. This article shares how to apply field research effectively, separate signal from noise, and build a differentiated perspective. You can read it here.
